Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa Wedding

Cancun Destination Wedding Photographer Experience

Kerri and Dalton’s destination wedding at the Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa was nothing short of magical. From a full week of celebrations to an unforgettable wedding day, this experience perfectly captures what it means to work as a Cancun destination wedding photographer.

I had the honour of co-photographing this incredible wedding week alongside Tess Lucas Photography, beautifully planned by Liz Moore Destination Weddings. Every detail came together seamlessly at one of the most sought-after Cancun wedding resorts.

A Destination Wedding Week in Cancun

As destination wedding photographers, we experience many resorts across Mexico, and Dreams Riviera Cancun stands out as an exceptional choice for couples planning a wedding in Cancun. It offers the perfect balance between a lively atmosphere and intimate spaces, making it ideal for both couples and their guests.

Kerri and Dalton’s love story set the tone for the entire week. Their connection is genuine, effortless, and deeply rooted in friendship, which made every moment incredibly natural to capture.

Before the wedding day, we joined their friends and family on a boat excursion to Isla Mujeres. This day was filled with laughter, tropical rain, ocean swims, and unforgettable energy. After docking, we explored the island, enjoyed local cuisine, and cruised around by golf cart (only $80 USD for two hours), taking in the vibrant scenery and hidden gems along the coastline. For couples considering a more intimate destination wedding, Isla Mujeres is a beautiful option worth exploring. Highly recommend visiting Bahía del Rey for some delicious fried fish, nachos and fish tacos!

Why Dreams Riviera Cancun is Perfect for Destination Weddings

Part of the Hyatt Hotels Corporation collection, Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa is a top-tier choice for Cancun destination weddings. The resort offers a range of customizable wedding packages, allowing couples to tailor every detail from florals to dining experiences.

With multiple ceremony and reception locations, couples can choose the perfect setting that aligns with their vision. From beachfront ceremonies to lush garden spaces like the Mayan Tree location, every backdrop is designed for stunning wedding photography in Cancun.

The on-site coordination team ensures a smooth experience from start to finish. We had the pleasure to work with Edgar, one of the resort’s planners. A rehearsal walkthrough helps couples feel confident and relaxed before their big day, allowing everything to flow effortlessly.

A Romantic and Playful Wedding Day

Kerri and Dalton chose to do a first look before their ceremony, creating an intimate moment that allowed us to capture genuine emotion before the celebrations began. This is something I always recommend to couples planning a destination wedding in Cancun, as it allows for a more relaxed timeline and meaningful portraits.

In their questionnaire that I send to each couple before their big day, I asked what was their favourite memory together. This was their answer:

“Belize, all the adventuring we did there, Dalton dropping his gopro as soon he got into the ocean, our trip to BC where he proposed, camping trips, any snowboarding trip. Honestly he makes everything so much better, more fun, full of laughter and its always a good time even when things go wrong.”

And you can certainly immerse yourself into their playful and romantic day by looking at their gorgeous photos!

The wedding design featured soft green and ivory tones, perfectly complementing the natural surroundings. The bride’s gown was a true statement piece, covered in sparkle and texture, paired with a unique black diamond ring that added a modern, bold touch.

Their ceremony took place at the Mayan Tree, symbolizing strength, growth, and unity. Surrounded by 40 of their closest family and friends, the setting felt both private and deeply personal.

Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails, appetizers, and a lively Mariachi band, bringing a traditional Mexican element into the celebration. Incorporating local culture is one of the best ways to elevate a destination wedding experience in Cancun.

Reception at Oceana Restaurant

The evening continued with a plated dinner at the Oceana Restaurant, where heartfelt speeches, a romantic first dance, and an unforgettable dance party brought the celebration to life. The energy, joy, and connection between everyone present made for some of the most dynamic and emotional wedding photos.

Tips for Planning Your Cancun Destination Wedding

If you are planning your own destination wedding in Cancun, here are a few tips from a Cancun destination wedding photographer:

  • Plan extra experiences for your guests, like a boat day or island excursion

  • Consider a first look to create a relaxed and intentional wedding timeline

  • Incorporate local culture such as Mariachi music or traditional cuisine

  • Take advantage of resort activities like bike tours to explore nearby towns

  • Choose a venue with diverse backdrops for more dynamic wedding photos

Dreams Riviera Cancun also offers easy access to nearby towns, where you can explore local architecture, shops, and culture. A short bike ride into town is a great way to experience the area beyond the resort.

A Wedding to Remember

This wedding week was a true celebration of love, connection, and unforgettable experiences. From the boat excursion to the emotional first look and the high-energy dance floor, every moment reflected who Kerri and Dalton are as a couple.

As a Cancun destination wedding photographer, it is experiences like these that make destination weddings so meaningful to capture.
